Is Charter Demand Exceeding Next-Gen Aircraft Supply?

The question surfaces frequently in today’s charter conversations. Demand feels strong across many regions, delivery timelines for new aircraft remain extended, and next-generation models are still entering service at a measured pace. It is reasonable to ask whether charter demand is starting to exceed available supply.
Our internal charter activity data suggests a more nuanced reality.
Image 1. Overview of global charter demand trends and fleet utilization based on Avi-Go market insights.
Based on Avi-Go’s aggregated market insights, global charter departures increased by 89,066 flights year over year between January and November 2025, representing a 1.75 percent rise. This level of growth points to steady market expansion rather than a system under strain. Demand is clearly present, but it is being absorbed without sharp dislocation.
What stands out is not a surge in volume, but a gradual evolution in mission profiles. According to our data analysis, long-range charter flights increased their share from 3.76 percent in 2024 to 3.90 percent in 2025. Short-range missions continue to dominate overall activity, yet longer flights are slowly becoming more common. This reflects changing travel needs and route patterns, not a sudden mismatch between aircraft availability and demand.
Across more than 5.18 million global business aviation flights captured in our dataset for this period, turboprops remain the most active category, followed by light and midsize jets. These aircraft types continue to underpin charter operations worldwide. Heavy jets and ultra long range aircraft serve a smaller but stable share of the market, while VIP airliners and airliners remain specialized tools rather than mainstream capacity. Helicopter activity remains minimal in comparison.
Existing Fleets Bridge Today While Next-Gen Shapes Tomorrow
This distribution explains why pre-owned aircraft continue to carry the charter market today. Our utilization trends show that existing fleets deliver the availability and operational flexibility needed to support demand, even as new aircraft enter service gradually. Month to month fluctuations are largely seasonal, not structural, reinforcing the stability of the current fleet mix.
Regional patterns reinforce this view. Our regional breakdown shows mature markets such as North America and Europe maintaining broadly stable activity across core aircraft categories. In contrast, regions with a higher concentration of long-haul and premium missions, including West Asia and parts of East Asia, remain more heavily weighted toward heavy jet and ultra long range flying. Elsewhere, turboprops and light jets continue to dominate regional and short-haul connectivity.

Next-generation aircraft are therefore best viewed as capacity enhancement rather than replacement. Based on fleet transition patterns and OEM delivery timelines tracked in our data, new models are being integrated progressively. They improve efficiency, range, and passenger experience, but they do not redefine supply overnight.
Taken together, the picture is clear. Charter demand is not exceeding supply. The market is functioning effectively, supported by pre-owned fleets that meet today’s needs, while next-generation aircraft shape what the charter landscape will look like in the years ahead.
