Aircare International Overhauls Medical Kit Refurbishment Process for Emergency Telemedicine Subscribers

Aircare International has overhauled its medical kit refurbishment process for subscribers to its emergency telemedicine service. Under the updated process, Aircare now maintains a stock of refurbished, ready-to-use kits in-house rather than requiring the prior steps the new process eliminates.

The company says the change will reduce unnecessary shipping, lower the administrative coordination demands placed on flight departments, and deliver faster and more consistent service. Loaner kits will still be available when required. Karl Kamps, Vice President of Operations for Aircare Crew Staffing and Emergency Telemedicine, said medical kit maintenance is an important component of a flight department's emergency preparedness program.

This falls into a broader move among aviation medical-support providers to shrink the administrative burden flight departments carry around safety and compliance equipment. Refurbishment and loaner logistics for emergency medical kits have historically required departments to track shipping windows and coordinate turnaround, work that competes with crew scheduling and dispatch priorities.

An in-house, pre-stocked model works by removing the shipping cycle from the critical path: instead of sending a kit out for refurbishment and waiting for its return, a flight department receives an already-refurbished unit while a loaner covers any gap. That shifts inventory risk onto the provider rather than the customer.

What remains to be seen is how consistently Aircare can maintain in-house stock across its subscriber base during periods of high demand, and whether flight departments report measurably faster turnaround once the new process is in full use.
