Czech Startup Zuri Unveils Hybrid-Electric Uncrewed Cargo Tiltrotor with 679 km Range and 145 kg Payload

Czech aerospace developer Zuri has unveiled a hybrid-electric uncrewed cargo tiltrotor aircraft for civil and defense logistics, capable of carrying payloads up to 145 kilograms without requiring runway infrastructure. Eight distributed rotors powered by a combustion-driven generator and onboard battery reserve allow vertical takeoff before tilting forward for wing-borne cruise at speeds up to 220 kilometers per hour, reaching a maximum design range of 679 kilometers (569 kilometers with a 30-minute fuel reserve). A belly pod variant carrying auxiliary sensors or communication relay packages extends ISR mission range to up to 1,908 kilometers.
The design is meant to bridge the gap between short-range battery-only drones and crewed transport helicopters, targeting remote forward operating bases, island networks, and offshore energy platforms.
Zuri's full-scale Technology Demonstrator 2.0 is undergoing systems integration and ground trials in Prague, with flight testing scheduled to begin in early 2027, supported by a €6 million Series A funding tranche. Initial commercial deliveries are planned between 2027 and 2029. The program draws on nine years of flight testing across more than 15 aircraft models, and commercial certification is being pursued through the EASA Specific category under the SORA framework. Founder and CEO Michal Illich said the company spent nine years and more than fifteen aircraft developing the architecture, and that the uncrewed cargo VTOL is the first being built for someone else to fly, funded through its full flight test campaign to deliver capability to commercial and defense operators.
