United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby, speaking at a Denver fireside chat, said sustainable aviation fuel is the primary path to decarbonizing an aviation sector that accounts for roughly 2.5% of global CO2 emissions, with a larger warming impact once non-CO2 factors like contrails are counted. He called for stronger U.S. government incentives to build out the nascent SAF supply chain, comparing it to how solar subsidies drove down the cost of solar power.
Kirby also voiced concern that the Trump administration's One Big Beautiful Bill cut SAF tax credits.
