Kazakhstan plans to expand its jet fuel production capacity by 2030, Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhenov said at a government press conference on November 4, 2026. He acknowledged that the country currently faces a shortage of jet fuel, with approximately 25% of the required volume imported from abroad.

The ministry intends to address the issue by modernising the country's three existing oil refineries and constructing a new, fourth facility. Work is also underway to expand the capacity of a mini-refinery in the west of the country. Its modernisation, due for completion by the middle of next year, will yield an additional 100,000 tons of kerosene. By 2030, Kazakhstan is expected to have the capacity to produce an extra 1.5 million tons of jet fuel.

Akkenzhenov said the projects cover the modernisation of the mini-refinery and the three main refineries, as well as the construction of a fourth plant. He assured that there are currently no restrictions or shortages of jet fuel in the country.
