Airbus Targets $2 Billion in Annual Sourcing from India Before 2030, Up From About $1.6 Billion
Why It MattersA larger Airbus sourcing commitment would pull more complex assemblies, avionics and engineering work into India, deepening the country's aerospace supply chain and raising demand for local MRO and training capacity.
Airbus plans to raise its annual sourcing of aircraft components and services from India to USD 2 billion before 2030, up from about USD 1.6 billion currently. Jurgen Westermeier, Airbus President and Managing Director for India and South Asia, announced the target at the Aviation India and South Asia 2026 conference in New Delhi on Tuesday. He described India as a very important market for the company and said the country would need stronger local manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) infrastructure, and aviation training as its aircraft fleet grows.

The increase would add roughly USD 400 million to Airbus' yearly sourcing from India before the end of the decade. The company also plans to broaden its engagement with Indian industry, moving beyond existing procurement towards more complex aircraft assemblies, advanced avionics and engineering work. Westermeier said India accounts for around 15% of Airbus' targeted annual production.
Airbus identified MRO capacity as a separate challenge, noting that operators will need facilities and technical teams able to support aircraft within the country as India's fleet expands. Westermeier also highlighted workforce development through aviation training to support both the larger fleet and higher-value activities.
