Sharjah Airport Authority Pushes Dh2.4 Billion Expansion to Lift Capacity Above 25 Million Passengers by End-2027
Why It MattersLarge-scale capacity investment at Sharjah signals intensifying competition among Gulf airports for traffic, and a broader aviation hub build-out in the northern emirates alongside Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) is advancing a Dh2.4 billion package of expansion and infrastructure projects aimed at raising the airport's annual passenger capacity to more than 25 million by the end of 2027.

The airport handled 11,601,728 passengers between January 1 and September 30, 2026. Passenger traffic for 2025 reached approximately 19.48 million, up 13.9 per cent.
SAA Chairman Ali Salim Al Midfa said the expansion is a central component of the authority's development strategy, which pairs infrastructure investment with efforts to attract new airline partnerships and destinations.
