FL Technics Expands Bangkok Engineering Team to Support Growing APAC Aircraft Transition Demand
Why It MattersMaintenance providers are adding regional engineering capacity in Southeast Asia as heavily leased fleets grow and lease transitions become a larger share of technical work.
FL Technics has expanded its Engineering department team and strengthened its presence in Bangkok, bringing engineering and transition support closer to aircraft and stakeholders across Southeast Asia. The move links regional execution with the company's broader engineering and CAMO capabilities.

The expansion comes as Asia-Pacific fleets grow. Boeing projects Southeast Asia's commercial aircraft fleet will rise from approximately 1,420 aircraft in 2024 to 5,100 by 2044. Airbus forecasts demand for 19,560 new passenger aircraft in Asia-Pacific over the next 20 years, equal to 46% of global demand. Cirium data has shown operating lessors accounting for close to 60% of the APAC passenger jet fleet outside China, and lessor financing is the most common source for single-aisle aircraft deliveries in Asia-Pacific and India.
Phillip M. Pilipunas, Vice President Commercial – APAC Engineering Department at FL Technics, said an aircraft can be technically compliant and still not be ready for a successful transition. He said the task is to establish a defensible technical position by reconciling maintenance status and records, verifying configuration and component traceability, and assessing physical condition against contractual requirements. He cited a case he was involved with in which technical findings discovered during a transition led to a commercial buy-out settlement of approximately USD 3.5 million.
FL Technics says its Engineering department supports an extensive portfolio of aircraft under continuing airworthiness management and typically manages dozens of asset-transition projects simultaneously. The Bangkok-based team is intended to work closer to aircraft, operators and MRO providers, supporting aircraft from pre-purchase and mid-lease inspections through records review, physical surveys and maintenance supervision to delivery, redelivery and continuing airworthiness management. FL Technics is part of Avia Solutions Group, which describes itself as the world's largest ACMI provider, operating a fleet of 107 aircraft on 6 continents.
