Swissport Signs Joint Venture with Indonesia's UNEX Aviation Services to Enter Indonesian Market
Why It MattersThe deal extends Swissport's Asia-Pacific ground-handling and cargo footprint into Indonesia, a market IATA forecasts to become the fourth-largest globally by 2030.
Swissport International has signed binding transaction agreements to form a joint venture with Jakarta-based UNEX Aviation Services, marking the ground handling and cargo giant's entry into the Indonesian aviation market. Under the agreement, Swissport will acquire a stake in UNEX, which was founded in 2003 and provides air cargo warehousing and related services to international and domestic airlines at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, holding ground handling licences covering operations across Indonesia.

The joint venture will initially build on UNEX's existing cargo operations before expanding into ramp handling and passenger services, with plans to extend operations to additional airports across Indonesia. Warwick Brady, President and CEO of Swissport International, said Indonesia is one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets, with IATA forecasting it to become the fourth-largest globally by 2030, describing the deal as a step in Swissport's strategy to expand its cargo business and strengthen its ground-handling presence in Southeast Asia.
The agreement adds Indonesia to Swissport's Asia-Pacific network, which currently includes operations in China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. In 2025, Swissport's Asia-Pacific operations handled approximately 25 million passengers, 632,000 flights and 450,000 tonnes of cargo, supported by around 10,000 employees.
