Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to Britain with their children, Archie and Lilibet, on Wednesday, more than six years after stepping back from royal duties in what was widely called "Megxit." The couple chartered a Bombardier Global Express XRS through Planet 9, an international private aviation company, at approximately $12,000 per flight hour, and with the journey estimated at around 10 hours, the total cost came to roughly $120,000. The aircraft accommodates up to 13 passengers and features two bathrooms and five sleeping berths capable of accommodating six people.
The mode of travel has drawn renewed scrutiny of the Sussexes' past environmental statements. In a 2019 Vogue interview, Harry said he and Meghan planned to have no more than two children due to concerns about the planet, noting that limiting family size could reduce their carbon footprint by 58.5 tons, and he has said publicly that "we can all do better. We all have a responsibility to make an impact and look after our own environment."
The trip also follows reports that a British court ordered Harry to pay approximately £9.5 million within a week following his legal defeat in a case against the publisher of the Daily Mail. Speculation has also emerged about the couple's planned residence in Britain, with people familiar with the situation saying they are looking for a home in the Cotswolds, near Highgrove, the private residence associated with King Charles and Queen Camilla.
