Saab unveiled a full-scale concept of the A3-001, a new unmanned supersonic aircraft, at the Swedish Armed Forces Air Show.

Saab said the A3-001 is designed to operate as part of an integrated combat aviation system in which manned and unmanned platforms work together, complementing Gripen fighters and GlobalEye airborne early warning aircraft. The aircraft is planned to carry out high-risk missions including electronic warfare, suppression of enemy air defenses, and high-precision strike operations. Peter Nilsson, head of Saab's Advanced Programs division, said: "We are currently in an intensive development phase, where, together with Sweden, we are researching technologies that will lay the foundation for the next generation of combat aviation systems. As part of this work, we intend to launch drones with fighter jet capabilities by 2030."
Saab described the project as being in an active development and research phase, and framed its broader vision as combining manned and unmanned aviation capabilities to expand the range of missions modern air forces can perform.
