UMMC AirCare Adds Pilatus PC-12 as First Fixed-Wing Aircraft, Becoming Fifth in Fleet

The University of Mississippi Medical Center's AirCare program has added a Pilatus PC-12, marking the service's first fixed-wing aircraft and expanding its fleet to five aircraft total. The new plane is designated AirCare 5.

Guardian Flight, part of the Global Medical Response family of air medical services, is providing UMMC with the aircraft, pilot, and aviation operations for AirCare 5. UMMC supplies medical direction and staffing support for the clinical crews on board. The aircraft is intended to improve access to specialized care — including trauma, stroke, transplant, neonatal, burn, and cardiac services — for patients in Mississippi's rural and community hospitals who must travel significant distances to reach advanced treatment.
"We are proud to partner with the University of Mississippi Medical Center AirCare on the expansion of their flight program," said Billy Casey, regional director for GMR. Dr. L. Kendall McKenzie, chair of the UMMC Department of Emergency Medicine, said the addition of fixed-wing service strengthens the Medical Center's ability to connect critically ill and injured patients with advanced specialty care.
