Joby Aviation Launches Month-Long Cross-Country Tour with Autonomous J208 Cessna Caravan

Joby Aviation has launched a month-long, coast-to-coast autonomous flight tour with its J208 aircraft, a converted Cessna Caravan fitted with Joby's autonomous flight system, stopping across 10 states from California to the East Coast and back as part of the company's 2026 Electric Skies tour. The tour is meant to demonstrate the aircraft's operational maturity for commercial freight, medical transport, disaster response and defense logistics, and it supports Joby's role in the White House-backed eVTOL and AAM Integration Pilot Program.
The J208 has logged more than 400 flights and 800 automated flight hours in both controlled and uncontrolled airspace, running on an autonomy stack originally built by Xwing and folded in after Joby's 2024 acquisition of the company. It has flown in three U.S. military exercises, including the Air Force's Agile Flag readiness exercise, where it delivered cargo that returned other aircraft to service roughly 24 hours sooner than conventional logistics, and it took part in REFORPAC in August 2025. The aircraft flies under a supervised autonomy model, with a ground-based Remote Pilot acting as Pilot in Command and a monitoring pilot on board for select operations.
Planned stops include Phoenix, Fort Worth, Shaw Air Force Base, the Outer Banks, Raleigh, Stafford/Washington D.C., Louisville (where it will demonstrate cargo automation at UPS Worldport), Wichita, Oklahoma City, Salt Lake City, and Portland, where the tour concludes. The launch took place at Fort Worth Alliance Airport at an event hosted by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy marking the eIPP program's start in Texas alongside TxDOT; North Carolina operations will back NCDOT's eLIFT-NC healthcare logistics initiative, and Western stops join UDOT's five-state uFLY coalition evaluating autonomous flight over high-altitude and desert terrain. Joby founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt said autonomous flight can transform how essential supplies are delivered, emergencies are answered, and servicemen and women are supported.
