McKinney National Airport's $79M Commercial Terminal Under Construction, Avelo Airlines to Launch Flights Nov. 11

A $79 million commercial passenger terminal is under construction at McKinney National Airport in Collin County, Texas, with commercial flights expected to begin as early as this fall. The 46,000-square-foot terminal will feature four gates, and once operational, McKinney National Airport will become the third commercial airport in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, alongside DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field.
Airport Director Ken Carley said growth in Collin County, which the U.S. Census identifies as the fastest-growing county in both Texas and the nation, drove the need for a commercial airport, adding that airlines have expressed interest in serving the market from this location. Houston-based Avelo Airlines is set to begin commercial flights from McKinney National Airport on November 11, with nonstop service to Las Vegas, Nevada, and four Florida cities: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa. Carley estimated the airport's catchment area generates approximately two million enplanements per year.
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport recorded its busiest year ever in 2023 with more than 22 million passengers, Dallas Love Field handled 17.5 million passengers in 2023, and William P. Hobby Airport in Houston set a record in 2024 with 14.6 million passengers.
