Pratt & Whitney Canada Advances Engine Oil Analysis Technology with Enhanced Dashboard Updates Due by End of 2026

Why It MattersGreater self-service visibility into engine particle data could shift more predictive maintenance decisions from OEM support teams onto operators themselves.

Pratt & Whitney Canada has operated an OEM-backed Oil Analysis Technology service for more than ten years, using particle-level data to give operators actionable insights into engine health across almost all of its engine models. Operators request a sampling kit and submit engine oil samples, typically once a year or every 300 to 400 flight hours, for laboratory analysis, with results and maintenance recommendations delivered through an oil analysis dashboard on the MyP&WC Power portal that color-codes each engine green, yellow, or red. Recommendations range from increased sampling frequency and borescope or filter inspections to proactive maintenance intervention before a developing issue causes an in-service event, and the service can be included in pay-per-hour maintenance programs such as ESP.

Andy Kim, Product Manager for Oil Analysis Technology, said the service is distinguished by alloy-level particle monitoring, identifying not only how many metallic particles are present in the oil but which specific component types they originate from. Pratt & Whitney Canada says it has accumulated millions of particle-level data points over more than a decade, supported by collaboration with its engineering, engine program, and customer support teams.

The company is developing a suite of dashboard enhancements based on direct operator feedback, intended to give operators greater visibility into individual oil analysis results and a more detailed view of the components and materials being monitored. Kim said the improvements aim to make engine information more transparent and easier to track, enabling customers to plan maintenance more independently, with the enhanced dashboard features scheduled for rollout before the end of 2026.
