Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport Unveils New 9,000-Square-Foot Terminal at Fort Leonard Wood
Why It MattersThe new terminal shows military joint-use airfields adding civilian passenger capacity, widening access to remote installations through small regional commercial service rather than major hubs.
Fort Leonard Wood and its neighboring communities held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 4, 2026, to mark the opening of the new terminal building at Waynesville-St. Robert Regional Airport, located at Forney Army Airfield on Fort Leonard Wood. The 9,000-square-foot terminal has a 50-passenger capacity. A Waynesville-St. Robert Joint Airport Board official said the terminal is expected to open to passengers on Dec. 8, 2026. Contour Airlines provides commercial air service from the airport to and from Dallas, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee.

Gen. Alexander Lovasz, commanding general of the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood, said the airport is one of 21 joint-use airfields across the Department of War. He said the airfield served almost 11,000 people last year and that the new facility will improve access to Fort Leonard Wood.
Waynesville Mayor Sean Wilson described the terminal as a sign of growth, transformation and evolution for the community. St. Robert Mayor James Breckinridge said that, given this year's passenger volume, the terminal "couldn't come at a better time," and called it an investment in regional transportation infrastructure that will serve residents, businesses, visitors and the military community.
