MTU Maintenance Signs Three-Year GE90-115B Engine MRO Deal with Garuda Indonesia

Why It MattersIndependent MROs continue to hold widebody GE90 work as the type ages, and Asia-Pacific operators are placing long-term engine support with European shops rather than leaving it to OEM channels.

MTU Maintenance and Garuda Indonesia have signed a three-year agreement for maintenance support of the airline's GE90-115B engines, the companies announced from Hannover on 26 October 2026. Garuda operates eight Boeing 777-300ER aircraft powered by the GE90-115B. The contract covers maintenance, repair and overhaul of the engines at MTU's facility in Hannover, which the company says will help ensure engine availability, operational efficiency and fleet reliability. MTU Maintenance's office in Singapore will also assist with leasing and asset management as required.

Martin Friis-Petersen, Senior Vice President of MRO Programs at MTU Aero Engines, said the contract strengthens MTU Maintenance's presence in Asia-Pacific, where demand for dependable engine maintenance continues to grow. The companies' relationship dates back more than two decades; MTU also provides MRO services for CFM International engines to Citilink, a budget airline within the Garuda Indonesia group. Garuda Indonesia's Director of Maintenance, Mukhtaris Aris, said the collaboration reflects the airline's commitment to safety and operational reliability.

The GE90-110/115B has been part of MTU Maintenance's MRO portfolio since 2010 and is a cornerstone of its widebody engine business in Hannover. The company describes itself as one of the leading independent MRO providers for the engine type and says it has retained its rank as a top-tier performer of worldwide GE90 shop visits over the last three years.
