Italian Air Force Gulfstream G-650 flies critically ill 50-year-old woman from Cagliari to Venice for transfer to Padua hospital
Why It MattersMedical evacuations like this show state-owned large-cabin jets serving as emergency air ambulances alongside commercial operators, with government authorisation, rather than market pricing, deciding which aircraft flies.
A Gulfstream G-650 of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force, based at Rome Ciampino, was used yesterday evening for a lifesaving flight from Cagliari to Venice. The flight was authorized by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which manages and coordinates the activities of the state aircraft fleet.

The patient, a 50-year-old Italian woman, needed to be urgently transferred from the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari to the University Hospital of Padua. She boarded the aircraft at the Sardinian airport and was assisted during the flight by a medical team.
