Sharjah Airport Plans to Combine Home Check-in With Al Diyafah Premium Service

Why It MattersBundling door-to-door baggage handling with premium ground assistance shows Gulf airports moving to compete on end-to-end passenger experience, a pattern that favours operators able to integrate off-airport processing with terminal services.

Sharjah International Airport plans to integrate its home check-in service with Al Diyafah, its recently launched premium passenger service. Travellers would be able to complete check-in formalities and have their baggage collected at home before travelling to the airport. The proposed integration would combine home baggage collection and boarding pass issuance with personalised airport assistance, with the aim of reducing waiting times and simplifying the passenger journey. The airport has not announced a launch date for the combined service.

Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Hamoudi, director of customer services at Sharjah Airport Authority, said the plan is part of efforts to offer more flexible travel options tailored to passengers' needs.

Al Diyafah provides personalised assistance for arriving and departing passengers, including dedicated reception, baggage handling, and expedited check-in, passport control and security screening. Passengers can also use a luxury hospitality lounge and, where aircraft are not connected to an aerobridge, access private vehicle transfers directly to the aircraft. The service also includes duty-free shopping delivery within 30 minutes, alongside exclusive offers and discounts.

Sharjah Airport already offers several self-service facilities, including boarding pass kiosks, baggage drop-off, smart immigration gates and self-boarding services. Al Hamoudi said the authority will continue investing in technology and passenger services to simplify procedures, reduce queues and improve operational efficiency.
