Electra's Hybrid-Electric Ultra Short Aircraft Lands at Downtown Skyport in Lower Manhattan
Why It MattersFixed-wing aircraft with ultra-short takeoff performance are being positioned as an alternative to helicopters and vertical-lift designs for point-to-point regional air mobility from existing urban heliports.
Electra has announced the successful takeoff and landing of its hybrid-electric Ultra Short aircraft at Downtown Skyport in Lower Manhattan. The company believes it is the first landing at the heliport by a fixed-wing aircraft without vertical takeoff capability.

The demonstration is the latest in Electra's Life Beyond Runways series and showcases Direct Aviation, a regional mobility model intended to connect passengers directly from where they are to where they want to go, bypassing congested roads and crowded airport hubs.
