Largest Electric Aircraft Takes Flight
Why It MattersThe flight signals progress toward commercially viable electric and hybrid-electric regional aircraft, a segment distinct from today's business-jet fleet.
Heart Aerospace, a Y Combinator W19 alumnus, has flown what is described as the largest electric aircraft ever flown. The aircraft has a 100-foot wingspan and a takeoff weight of 25,000 pounds, and the electricity required to get it airborne cost approximately $5.

According to specifications shared in the company's video, the aircraft has an all-electric range of 125 miles and a range of 500 miles when operating in hybrid mode, combining electric power with a conventional turboprop system.
