Duncan Aviation Begins Installing FAA-Approved Archangel AHRS in Pilatus PC-12 Aircraft

Why It MattersA certified, lower-cost route off the ageing LITEF units gives PC-12 operators an alternative to costly upgrades and widens aftermarket avionics options for the single-engine turboprop fleet.

Duncan Aviation is offering Pilatus PC-12 customers the new Archangel Attitude & Heading Reference System (AHRS), designed specifically to replace the obsolete LITEF LCR-92/93 AHRS. The LCR-92/93 served dependably for decades, but as the units age, support has become limited, repair costs are rising and turnaround times are increasing, leading to longer downtimes. Available upgrade paths can also require significant investment.

The FAA has recently approved the Archangel AHRS. Duncan Aviation supported Archangel's certification effort through installation and integration of the new system, including the initial installation at its Dallas Satellite facility. Duncan Aviation can install the system at all of its main MRO facilities and all of its satellite avionics shops. Because the installation is straightforward and uses existing architecture, technicians can also perform it at a customer's hangar, and the company says most installations can be completed in less than a week.

Aria Bahawdory, VP of Business Development at Archangel Systems, said Duncan Aviation was thorough and professional during development of the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC). Archangel is confident the new AHRS will give Pilatus owner/operators a practical, dependable and affordable replacement for their obsolete inertial sensing systems.
