Florida Governor DeSantis Pledges to Make Tesla's Flying Roadster Legal, Citing Golf Carts in The Villages
Why It MattersA state governor publicly backing a flying road vehicle shows early political willingness to accommodate hybrid air-ground mobility, though a social media post carries no legal weight for certification or operation.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said on X on October 16, 2026, that the state will make sure Tesla's flying Roadster is legal, writing that it "at a minimum could be used to leapfrog golf carts in the Villages," the central Florida retirement community known for its golf-cart culture.

The post followed a Tesla demonstration on October 15, 2026, livestreamed from Elon Musk's SpaceX facility in Texas. During the event, which lasted less than 30 minutes, the Roadster drove upside down, momentarily flew and accelerated to 60 mph in under a second. The post is a statement of intent, not a legal filing.
