Why It MattersA cautious regulator timeline signals that eVTOL passenger services in Southeast Asia will depend on operators clearing safety and infrastructure proof first, pushing commercial launches further out than manufacturers' schedules suggest.

An eVTOL is a battery-powered aircraft that can take off and land like a helicopter and is suited to short journeys such as airport transfers, island connections, tourism and travel between nearby cities. Norazman said passenger services would only be considered after operators prove that their aircraft, crew, landing facilities and emergency systems can meet the required standards.
