Schneider Electric Supplies Electrical and Digital Backbone for Skyports Infrastructure's VDX Vertiport at Dubai International Airport

Why It MattersVertiport buildout is turning into an electrical and digital integration business, where charging power, building systems and energy management are specified together as a repeatable template for eVTOL networks.

Schneider Electric has supported Skyports Infrastructure in delivering the electrical and digital backbone of VDX, described as the world's first purpose-built commercial vertiport, located by Dubai International Airport. Skyports Infrastructure is a vertiport infrastructure provider for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The vertiport reached technical completion in April 2026 and was certified for eVTOL operations in July 2026. It is the first and flagship vertiport in Dubai's planned air taxi network, with further vertiports in development at Dubai Marina, Downtown Dubai and Palm Jumeirah. VDX is designed to handle up to 170,000 passengers a year and includes high-power charging to keep Joby Aviation's aircraft ready between flights.

The Schneider Electric architecture comprises digital low-voltage switchboards, a building management system, EcoStruxure Power Operation at VDX integrated with the Dubai Marina Vertiport, ION9000 power quality monitoring, connected power meters, capacitor banks, and Galaxy UPS protecting critical systems. It is intended to deliver operational resilience through real-time visibility of critical power and building systems, energy intelligence that optimises consumption and enables charging that adapts dynamically to demand, and network scalability through a standardised digital architecture. Once the site is fully operational, the solutions are expected to deliver energy savings of up to 25% across the facility.

The project supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and its 20-Minute City policy; journeys that take 45 minutes by road are expected to take approximately 12 minutes by air. Gareth Wilson, General Manager, Dubai, Skyports Infrastructure, said charging electric aircraft creates significant and rapidly changing power demands while the terminal's critical systems must stay fully operational, and that the scalable approach gives Skyports a baseline to replicate across the wider Dubai network. Amel Chadli, Gulf Cluster and Countries President at Schneider Electric, said the company's role as Skyports' energy technology partner is to provide energy and digital infrastructure enabling safe, reliable and efficient operations from day one.
