Scottsdale Airport to Host Run the Runway 5K and Kids Fun Run on Oct. 25
Why It MattersCommunity runs on active airfield pavement show how general aviation airports use public events to build local goodwill and support for aviation education.
Run the Runway returns to Scottsdale Airport on Sunday, Oct. 25, letting runners and families race along the airport's taxiways and ramp. The event, presented by Volanti and PHX Run Club, features a 5K open to all ages and a one-mile Kids Fun Run for children ages 12 and younger. A post-race festival will include an aircraft display and entertainment, and a stretching session with Lululemon begins at 8 a.m.

Registration costs $50 for the 5K and $30 for the Kids Fun Run, plus fees. Each participant receives a race shirt, a finisher medal and post-race refreshments. Online registration is available through Oct. 24 at RunTheRunwayAZ, space is limited, and participants are encouraged to register early.
Proceeds benefit two local nonprofits. Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial Inc. preserves Scottsdale's aviation history, honors veterans and awards scholarships to students pursuing careers in aviation and aerospace. Opportunity 4 Kids helps Arizona youth in need take part in summer camps, after-school programs and extracurricular activities through financial assistance, equipment, uniforms and other resources. Deputy City Manager Judy Doyle said the event gives families a unique way to experience Scottsdale Airport while supporting local youth and students pursuing aviation careers.
Separately, Runway 03/21 and all taxiways will close at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, for a scheduled pavement preservation project. The runway is scheduled to reopen at noon on Saturday, Oct. 31.
