Tampa's Metrea Wins Australian Border Surveillance Contract With U.S. Commerce Department Support

Tampa-based aerospace company Metrea has secured a contract with the Australian government for border surveillance services, the U.S. Department of Commerce disclosed on August 26. The value, scope, and number of systems involved in the deal were not disclosed. The procurement was supported by the Commerce Department's International Trade Administration Advocacy Center, which assisted Metrea in securing the contract in May, and it is expected to support jobs at Metrea's Tampa facility, though the exact number was not specified.
Rory Morse, Program Manager for Metrea, said the contract reflects the company's track record in delivering complex surveillance operations around the world and expressed pride in the trust placed in the team by the Australian Government.
The Metrea deal is part of a broader federal effort to help Tampa Bay companies win overseas business. Since the start of 2025, the same Commerce program has helped RTX sign $2.6 billion in contracts with allied governments, with some of the work supporting jobs at Collins Aerospace's Largo manufacturing center.
