Curaçao opens talks with U.S. on border preclearance at Hato Airport, modeled on Aruba
Why It MattersPreclearance at a Caribbean gateway would let departing flights land in the U.S. as domestic arrivals, a facility advantage that shapes where business-jet and airline traffic chooses to route.
Curaçao has begun discussions with U.S. authorities about introducing American immigration and customs preclearance at Hato Airport. The system would mirror the one that has operated in Aruba since 1996. Justice Minister Shalten Hato raised the proposal during meetings in Washington.

Preclearance allows passengers to complete U.S. border inspections before departure. No formal agreement, implementation date or budget has been announced.
