Radiall Outlines Connectivity Challenges Facing Advanced Air Mobility and eVTOL Aircraft

As the Advanced Air Mobility industry moves toward commercial operations, connector and interconnect technology is emerging as a critical but often overlooked factor in eVTOL aircraft development, according to Radiall. Electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft are integrating more electric power systems, sensors, data networks and connected systems within strict size and weight constraints, and Radiall identifies four core connectivity challenges shaping the sector.
First, electrification demands lightweight, compact, high-performance power connectors capable of handling the electrical requirements of batteries, power distribution systems, inverters and electric propulsion without adding excessive weight. Second, the data-intensive nature of AAM platforms, which rely on sensors, avionics, flight controls and communications systems, requires high-speed electrical and optical interconnects; Radiall's QuickFusio hybrid connectivity platform combines electrical and optical channels in a compact solution to reduce wiring complexity while supporting high-speed data needs.
Third, connector miniaturization and high-density designs are needed to reduce size and weight and to simplify installation, aircraft assembly and maintenance as the industry scales from prototypes to production. Fourth, interconnect systems must withstand aerospace-grade environmental stresses including vibration, temperature changes and moisture throughout the operational life of the aircraft.
