Bad Ragaz LSZE Publishes Local Procedures: Private Aerodrome, PPR Required for Every Landing, Runway 12/30

Why It MattersStrict PPR rules, a very short runway and noise-based charges show how small Alpine airfields restrict access, which limits where larger business aircraft can operate in the region.

Bad Ragaz Aerodrome (LSZE) is a private airfield, and every landing requires prior permission (PPR) as published in the AIP; the PPR telephone number is +41 81 330 13 43. It has a single asphalt runway, 12/30 (bearing 120°/300°), measuring 495 × 11 m at an elevation of 1617 ft. The AD Info frequency is 123.505 and the maximum permitted weight (MPW) is 5700 kg. For flight preparation, the AIP, NOTAM and DABS apply.

The airfield is closed to gliders, helicopters and powered aircraft on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Whit Sunday, Federal Day of Thanksgiving, All Saints' Day and Christmas Day. On Sundays and public holidays, flying does not begin before 11:00. In summer, take-offs on runway 12 towards Bad Ragaz are not permitted between 13:00 and 15:00 on any day, although landing is allowed. Ground engine runs (run-ups excepted) are permitted from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00 all year. Authorised drone flights within a 5 km radius are listed in the drone calendar.

With generally westerly winds, runway 30 is in use with a right-hand circuit; runway 12 is used only in clear foehn conditions. Preferred approach sectors are west, north and east, and pilots should avoid the noise-sensitive areas shown on the chart. A radio call on 123.505 is required five minutes before ETA, and helicopter traffic is to be expected.

From 1 January 2026, no more than three landings per pilot per day are allowed, for aircraft of noise charge categories C and D only. Powered aircraft up to 1000 kg MTOW pay CHF 20 per tonne or part thereof and per landing; visiting gliders pay CHF 10 if they are towed again after landing. Payment is made online when logging the landing via Flightbox, and every movement must be logged there for the FOCA statistics.

On the ground, with light traffic aircraft park on the grass in front of the hangar, and the leftmost position is the customs parking position; visitors and busy periods use Parking A, and helicopters use parking H west of Parking A. Taxiing is generally clockwise to and from runway 30. Aircraft must approach the fuel pump from the side, parallel to it, rather than head-on. Two bicycles are available at the Flügerstübli for trips to Bad Ragaz or Sargans.
