Aircraft Component MRO Market Valued at USD 27.68 Billion in 2026, Forecast to Reach USD 35.11 Billion by 2032

Why It MattersDelivery shortfalls are keeping aging aircraft flying, which shifts growth toward repair work, yet technician shortages and supply chain constraints cap how fast shops can absorb it.

The aircraft component MRO market is valued at USD 27.68 billion in 2026 and is forecast to grow from USD 28.78 billion in 2027 to USD 35.11 billion by 2032, a 4.06% CAGR over 2027-2032. Delivery constraints are keeping older fleets in service and raising demand for repair work. IATA reported that the global commercial fleet averaged 15.1 years in mid-2025, with cargo aircraft averaging 19.6 years. IATA also cited 2025 airline maintenance costs of USD 3.1 billion and surplus inventory holding costs of USD 1.4 billion, both arising from supply chain constraints.

By segment, avionics held 24.56% of the market in 2026, while electrical systems are projected to grow at a 5.76% CAGR through 2032. Independent third-party MRO held 43.56%, while OEM-affiliated MRO is projected to grow at 5.84% CAGR. Commercial aviation held 71.67%, while general aviation is projected to grow at 5.89% CAGR. North America held 29.56% of the market, while Asia-Pacific is projected to grow at 5.81% CAGR.

OEM production backlogs and deferred deliveries are identified as a growth driver: Airbus delivered 793 commercial aircraft in 2025 against a target of 820. Global passenger traffic reached 5 billion passengers in 2025 with an annual load factor of 83.6%, and Asia-Pacific recorded 10.9% growth in international RPKs. Other drivers include growing outsourcing, adoption of PMA parts and used serviceable material, and certified digital health management.

Restraints include supply chain disruptions and long lead times, shortages of certified technicians, OEM IP, material price and certification cost pressure, and cross-border traceability and data security burdens. The Aviation Technician Education Council reported a 10% shortage of certificated mechanics in 2025 and projected it could approach 20%, or 25,000 mechanics, by 2028.
