Severe Weather Causes 52 Delays, Multiple Cancellations at San Antonio International Airport
Why It MattersRegional storm systems can ripple across connected hub airports, disrupting schedules for multiple carriers simultaneously and testing airline contingency planning.
Severe thunderstorms moving across Texas on Thursday, October 1, 2026, triggered significant flight disruptions at San Antonio International Airport (SAT), with FlightAware reporting 52 delays and multiple cancellations as of 10:46 a.m.

Two American Airlines flights from Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW) to SAT were canceled, along with two Southwest Airlines flights, one from SAT to Dallas Love Field (DAL) and one from DAL to SAT. A Southwest spokesperson confirmed the airline anticipated potential disruptions due to the weather and had issued a travel advisory for DAL stating that scheduled services could be delayed or canceled. Three Delta Air Lines flights and one United Airlines flight at SAT were also reported delayed.
The disruptions follow the Federal Aviation Administration issuing a ground stop at two major Dallas airports due to the same storm system. Dallas Love Field Public Information Officer Patrick Clarke confirmed that localized disruptions were affecting some routes between Dallas and San Antonio. The FAA had not issued a ground stop at SAT but listed one as a possibility until 1 p.m. The National Weather Service maintained a Flood Watch for the San Antonio region through 7 p.m., warning that life-threatening flooding was possible across San Antonio, Austin, Uvalde, and surrounding areas.
