Aircraft Fire Protection Systems Market Projected to Reach $2.61 Billion by 2035, Driven by Halon Phase-Out and Lithium Battery Risks
Why It MattersRegulatory halon bans and lithium-battery fire risks are pushing airframers, MRO providers, and suppliers toward sustained retrofit and clean-agent suppression investment across commercial and military fleets.
The global Aircraft Fire Protection Systems market is expected to reach USD 2.61 billion by 2035, growing at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 5%, driven by rising commercial aircraft production, expanding fleet sizes, and stricter certification rules requiring fire detection, warning, and suppression systems across engines, APUs, cargo compartments, lavatories, and cockpits. Under FAA Part 25 and EASA CS-25, all transport aircraft must carry certified fire protection systems, and the FAA documented 50 incidents of lithium-ion battery smoke, fire, or overheating on U.S. flights before issuing a 2025 safety bulletin.

In December 2025, European airlines met the first halon phase-out target under EU Regulation 2024/590, mandating halon-free portable fire extinguishers on EU-registered aircraft, with suppliers such as H3R Aviation offering Halotron BrX and Novec 1230 as alternatives. In September 2025, Butler National Corporation subsidiary Avcon Industries received FAA approval to install non-halon Halotron BrX extinguishers on Learjets.
Fire Detection held the largest system-type share at approximately 44.36% in 2025, while Fire Suppression/Extinguishing is the fastest-growing at a roughly 6% CAGR. Commercial Aircraft accounted for about 58.74% of the market, with Military Aircraft the fastest-growing segment at a 6.58% CAGR, supported by programs including the F-35, Eurofighter Typhoon, Rafale, KC-46, C-130, and CH-47. The Engine and APU application held the largest share at 34.18%, while Cargo Compartment is fastest-growing at 6.86%, tied to e-commerce growth and lithium battery air shipments.
Line Fit dominated with about 63.52% share, backed by order backlogs at Airbus, Boeing, Embraer, and COMAC, while Retrofit is the fastest-growing fit type at a 6.34% CAGR. North America held approximately 38.64% of the global market in 2025, led by Collins Aerospace, Honeywell, Curtiss-Wright, and Amerex, with the U.S. market expected to reach USD 854.01 million by 2035.
