Piper PA-28-180 Stalls After Takeoff at Morningstar, Three Occupants Injured

A Piper PA-28-180 crashed inside the Morningstar airfield perimeter on Tuesday morning after stalling moments after takeoff, according to South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) communications manager Sisa Majola. The aircraft was on an hour-building flight from Morningstar to Stellenbosch when it went down at approximately 09:30.
All three male occupants survived. Two exited the aircraft unaided with minor injuries, and all three were treated at the scene before being taken to a private medical facility. SACAA described the injuries to all three as minor, but the Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre has since recorded one of the injuries as serious, without identifying which occupant was affected or giving an update on his condition.
The scene was handed over to the South African Police Service and SACAA's Accidents and Incidents Investigations Division, which is conducting a desktop investigation into the cause and circumstances of the crash. The cause has not yet been established.
