Amcanu Managing Director Owain Davies Dies in Cirrus SR22T Crash Near Leukerbad

Owain Davies, Managing Director of Welsh enclosure manufacturer Amcanu, died on Tuesday, 15 September, when a Cirrus SR22T light aircraft crashed in the Fluhalp area near Leukerbad, Switzerland. He was travelling as a passenger alongside two close friends, both of whom also died in the crash.
Davies had led Amcanu, a specialist enclosure design and manufacturing company based in Burry Port, Wales, since 2000. The company was founded in 1975 by his father, Spencer Davies OBE. Under his leadership, Davies played a central role in the company's development and was a strong advocate for apprenticeships, skills development and careers in Welsh manufacturing, serving as a mentor to many within the business.
Beyond Amcanu, Davies was a council member of CBI Wales and chaired its SME Enterprise Forum. He became a Trustee of Wales Air Ambulance Charity in 2017, contributing through its Aviation Subgroup. He also served as a helmsman with Burry Port Lifeboat for nearly 25 years and spent a decade as a governor at Parc y Tywyn primary school. He was himself a passionate and experienced pilot.
His son, Aron Davies, said: "Dad was a real character. He was driven, determined and someone who simply didn't accept that a problem was too big to solve. I am immensely proud of everything he achieved, but I am even prouder to have had him as my father."
Amcanu confirmed that the Davies family remains closely involved in the company and that an established leadership team will continue to oversee day-to-day operations. All existing customer orders and commitments remain secure, and development plans already agreed with Davies will proceed. Davies is survived by his wife Michelle, children Aron and Ffion, father Spencer, and grandchildren Oakley and Albie.
