EASA Issues Airworthiness Directive on Rotax 912 ULS2 Gearboxes

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency published Airworthiness Directive AD 2026-0170 on 1 September 2026, applicable from 8 September 2026, requiring inspection of certain Rotax 912 ULS2 gearboxes. The directive targets only gearboxes whose part references and serial numbers appear in Rotax service bulletins ASB_2026-001 and ASB_A-2026-001.
The measure was prompted by the discovery of a recently manufactured engine missing an oil jet assembly and the M7x16 bolt retaining a bearing. The new directive is part of a broader pattern of technical alerts affecting multiple Rotax engine families.
