What happened
The eighth edition of the Bahrain International Airshow has been postponed by two years, organisers announced on 7 September, with the event now set for 15–17 November 2028. It had originally been scheduled to run from 18–20 November of this year at Sakhir air base near Manama.
The show's supreme organising committee said the rescheduling is "intended to allow for broader international participation from visitors, exhibitors, delegations and industry partners." The announcement did not directly reference the months-long conflict between the US and Iran that began in late February with Washington's Operation Epic Fury.
The ordinarily biennial event last took place in November 2024, when US–Iran tensions were already elevated. During that edition, Washington sent two Boeing B-52Hs to overfly the show, with one of the bombers also appearing in the static display for the first time.
Regional security backdrop
Iran's forces have launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes against air bases and other military infrastructure used by the US and its allies in the region, including sites inside Bahrain such as the US Navy's Fifth Fleet Headquarters. The organising committee's statement made no direct link between this activity and the decision to postpone.

A two-year postponement, rather than a shorter delay of a few months, indicates organisers see the disruption as extending well beyond the originally planned November dates. Airshows depend on exhibitors committing aircraft, personnel and static-display assets months in advance, and on international delegations being able to travel and insure their attendance; both become harder to secure when a host nation sits near active strike activity.
Biennial regional shows compete for the same manufacturer and defence-delegation calendar slots as larger established events, so a multi-year gap risks exhibitors reallocating that participation elsewhere rather than waiting. The 2024 edition's heavy US military presence, including the B-52H flights, shows how tied these shows can be to the same security dynamics now cited as the reason for delay.
