Canada's Three Major Gateways Log 2,843 Business-Jet Movements to/from US; CYYZ Accounts for 52.23%

Why It MattersConcentrating over half of transborder business-jet traffic at one gateway shows how demand clusters around a single hub even when nearby airports serve the same corridor.

What happened

Between 14 August and 12 September 2026, Canada's three principal gateway airports — CYYZ, CYVR and CYUL — recorded a combined 2,843 business-jet movements on segments whose opposite endpoint was in the United States, with departures and arrivals counted separately.

Canada's Three Major Gateways Log 2,843 Business-Jet Movements to/from US; CYYZ Accounts for 52.23%

CYYZ led with 1,485 movements, made up of 731 departures and 754 arrivals, representing 52.23% of the three-airport total. CYUL recorded 703 movements (341 departures, 362 arrivals), accounting for 24.73% of the total, while CYVR recorded 655 movements (325 departures, 330 arrivals), accounting for 23.04%. CYUL exceeded CYVR by 48 movements and by 1.69 percentage points.

By direction, 1,397 movements were outbound to the United States and 1,446 were inbound from the United States, with inbound traffic exceeding outbound by 49 movements. The counting methodology records each departure and each arrival as a separate movement and covers only business-jet segments with a US endpoint, over the full 30-day window specified.

Industry impact & what to watch

The split across the three gateways shows how transborder business-jet demand concentrates rather than distributing evenly across a country's major airports, with one gateway handling more than half of all recorded movements. CYYZ's 52.23% share against CYUL's 24.73% and CYVR's 23.04% indicates that scheduling, ground handling and slot planning for US-bound and US-origin business-jet traffic are disproportionately weighted toward a single hub, which has implications for how operators and FBOs allocate capacity across the three cities.

The near balance between inbound and outbound movements — 1,446 versus 1,397 — suggests the corridor functions as a genuine two-way traffic flow over the window measured rather than a one-directional pattern skewed toward either arrivals or departures. Whether CYYZ's concentration holds, narrows or widens will depend on subsequent 30-day windows measured the same way, which would show whether this snapshot reflects a stable structural pattern or a period-specific swing.
