What happened
Embraer and ANA Holdings Inc. signed an agreement on September 4, 2026 in Tokyo for eight additional E190-E2 aircraft, formalising a decision ANA HD had announced on July 29, 2026 to expand its fleet. The new order builds on ANA HD's original 2025 purchase contract for 15 firm E190-E2 aircraft, bringing the airline's total firm E2 orders to 23, with five additional options for E190-E2 aircraft still held.
Koji Shibata, President and CEO of ANA Holdings, said the additional order "accelerates our efforts to build a sustainable regional aviation network in Japan" and "underscores our confidence in Embraer's technology to reduce both environmental impact and operating costs." Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said the E2's fuel efficiency and economics would support expanded connectivity across Japan while improving passenger comfort.
ANA HD's first E190-E2 is scheduled for delivery in 2028. Embraer E-Jets have operated in Japan since 2009. ANA Holdings, established in 2013, is Japan's largest airline group holding company, comprising 72 companies including full-service carrier All Nippon Airways and low-cost carrier Peach Aviation Limited.

The five remaining options give ANA HD flexibility to scale the E2 fleet further without a fresh negotiation, while the 2028 delivery date sets the first concrete milestone against which the sustainability and cost claims made by both companies can be measured. Whether ANA HD converts some or all of those options, and how the E2 is deployed across its full-service and low-cost operations once deliveries begin, will show how firmly this order translates into an expanded domestic network.
