Latvia Briefly Warns of Airspace Threat, Says NATO Air Policing Jets Activated
Why It MattersDrone incursions along the Baltic–Russian border keep NATO air policing active near the eastern edge of the alliance, a recurring airspace-management factor for regional flight planning.
Latvia's armed forces briefly warned on Monday of a threat in the country's airspace affecting two regions and said NATO air policing fighter jets had been activated. In a post on X, the military said there was a threat in Latvian airspace and told residents in two eastern regions to shelter indoors.

The military later said the danger had passed and that the object was believed to be on the ground in Latvia, in an area near the Russian border. Ukrainian military drones have been straying into the airspace of Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, raising concerns that the war in Ukraine is spreading.
