SUSTAERO White Paper: Canada's Wood Waste Could Supply Over Five Times Domestic Jet Fuel Demand
Why It MattersThe paper positions forest-residue gasification as an alternative to fat-and-oil HEFA pathways, which face feedstock supply limits, and points to Canada's forest base as a potential SAF supply source.
SUSTAERO, a Canadian developer of utility-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facilities, has released a white paper titled *Wood Waste: Canada's SAF Feedstock Advantage*. The paper evaluates global SAF feedstocks and finds that the fats and oils used in Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) face severe supply limits, while wood waste is the single largest feedstock available to decarbonize global jet fuel.

Canada holds close to 9 percent of the world's forests. Converted through conventional gasification and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, Canada's gross wood waste could supply more than five times domestic jet fuel demand.
