Joby Aviation to fly electric air taxi from St. Petersburg to Tampa International in Florida's first federal eVTOL pilot program flight
Why It MattersA Florida eVTOL flight into a major commercial airport shows federal integration testing moving from planning to operations in busy airspace, a step toward routine urban air mobility service.
Joby Aviation plans to fly its piloted electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft from Albert Whitted Airport in downtown St. Petersburg across Tampa Bay to Tampa International Airport on Friday morning.

It marks Florida's first flights under the federal eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, which tests how such aircraft could be integrated into the national aviation system. Florida is one of eight states selected for the program, announced by the U.S. Department of Transportation in March; the state's project is expected to test passenger transportation, cargo delivery and automation.
