Sheltair Aviation Reaches More Than 8,000 Through Girls in Aviation Day 2026
Why It MattersThe initiative reflects a broader FBO-sector push to build public engagement and pipeline interest in aviation careers through youth-focused outreach programs.
Fort Lauderdale-based FBO company Sheltair Aviation announced on October 8, 2026 that its 2026 Girls in Aviation Day efforts reached more than 8,000 young people, families and community members. On September 19, Sheltair opened 11 locations across its network to mark Women in Aviation International's 12th Annual Girls in Aviation Day, working with local WAI chapters, airports, aviation organizations and community partners to let attendees explore aircraft, take part in hands-on activities and meet aviation professionals.

Participating organizations included Limited Aviation, Koda The Fluff, the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard, alongside aircraft operators, local businesses and volunteers. Lisa Holland, President of Sheltair Aviation, said the day is about "investing in the next generation of aviators" and giving young people their first time in a cockpit or introduction to a mechanic, pilot or engineer. Throughout the events, Sheltair teams kept up normal FBO operations — fueling aircraft and serving charter customers — while hosting hundreds, and in some communities thousands, of guests.
Sheltair Aviation is a family-owned FBO and aviation development company founded in 1963 by Jerry Holland, father of current president Lisa Holland.
