Utah DOT Demonstrates BETA Technologies All-Electric ALIA CX300 Aircraft Under uFLY Initiative

Why It MattersThe demonstration signals growing state-level efforts to build charging infrastructure and regulatory frameworks ahead of commercial electric aviation operations.

The Utah Department of Transportation, in partnership with BETA Technologies and 47G, conducted a flight demonstration of BETA's all-electric ALIA CX300 aircraft as part of uFLY, UDOT's multi-state initiative to accelerate the integration of advanced aviation technologies. The demonstration is the latest in a series of real-world flight operations under the program, which aims to build infrastructure and regulatory frameworks as electric aviation moves toward commercial use in regional passenger travel, cargo delivery, medical transportation and emergency response.

Unlike conventional jet-fuel-powered aircraft, BETA's ALIA CTOL is fully electric and designed to operate from existing airports using established aviation procedures. The aircraft has demonstrated a maximum range of 336 nautical miles and is capable of transporting cargo and critical medical supplies. BETA is building an integrated electric aviation ecosystem covering aircraft, electric motors, batteries and charging technology, and has charging infrastructure in place across Utah, with a high-speed Charge Cube under construction at Salt Lake City International Airport designed for interoperability with multiple emerging electric aircraft.

UDOT Commissioner Carlos Braceras said the uFLY initiative allows companies such as BETA to test technology in real-world conditions and assess how it can integrate into Utah's transportation systems. BETA founder and CEO Kyle Clark said the ALIA CTOL was designed to serve communities more efficiently and at lower cost across cargo, logistics and medical missions, while 47G President and CEO Aaron Starks described Utah's aerospace industry as having made a serious commitment to developing future transportation technologies.
