Atlantic Aviation Group Signs Long-Term easyJet A320 Family Base Maintenance Agreement at Shannon

Why It MattersHeavy maintenance for large narrowbody fleets is being spread across several European providers, so long-term base-check agreements work as capacity reservations that favour MROs able to hold hangar slots over years.

What happened

Atlantic Aviation Group (AAG), a maintenance, repair and overhaul company based at Shannon Airport, has announced a new long-term agreement with easyJet for base maintenance of the airline's Airbus A320 family aircraft. AAG made the announcement on its LinkedIn page, saying the deal reflects the continued trust easyJet places in the company and that it looks forward to supporting the airline's A320 family fleet for many years to come. The contract builds on an existing relationship between the two companies.

Shannon is one of the busiest heavy maintenance locations in Ireland. AAG offers A, C and D checks, structural inspections, modifications and system upgrades for the Airbus A320 family and for Boeing 737, 757 and 767 types.

Published fleet data puts easyJet at around 374 A320 family aircraft, with a further 291 A320neo family aircraft on order through to FY2034. The airline has been placing base maintenance work with a number of providers across Europe in recent months. The terms of the agreement, including its length and the number of aircraft or maintenance lines involved, have not been disclosed.

Industry impact & what to watch

Base maintenance for a narrowbody fleet of this size is a capacity problem as much as a pricing one. A, C and D checks take an aircraft out of service for days or weeks and need hangar space, certified staff and parts at the same time, so an airline with several hundred aircraft rarely relies on a single provider. Placing work with a number of European MROs, as easyJet has been doing, spreads that risk, and a long-term agreement is how a provider secures a share of that spread rather than competing for each check.

For an MRO, the value of such a contract lies in forward visibility. A multi-year commitment from an existing customer supports hiring, hangar scheduling and parts planning, and the Airbus A320 family orders running to FY2034 point to a fleet that will keep generating check work for years. That is also why renewals and extensions with incumbent providers are common in this segment: switching a base maintenance partner means re-qualifying processes and moving aircraft between sites.

The figures that would show the real weight of the deal are the ones not yet public: its length and the number of aircraft or maintenance lines involved. Those would show how much of easyJet's check demand now sits at Shannon, and AAG or easyJet are the parties who would supply them.
