BAE Systems expands Horizon Solutions aftermarket services as operators extend aircraft service life

Why It MattersAirlines facing tight aircraft supply are turning aftermarket support into a fleet-life lever, shifting equipment suppliers toward lifecycle contracts and predictable maintenance costs rather than one-off repairs.

BAE Systems is expanding its Horizon Solutions Aftermarket Services and Support to help commercial airlines keep aging aircraft in service longer, as strong passenger demand meets limited aircraft availability driven by aging fleets and supply chain constraints. The company says aftermarket support is shifting from reactive repair toward lifecycle management, with data-driven decisions on when to repair, upgrade or replace equipment and a focus on reducing Aircraft on Ground (AOG) time.

The expanded offerings include tailored overhaul services that refresh or replace critical equipment to restore performance and extend intervals between shop visits, expanded trade-in options that let operators swap legacy units for modernized versions to minimize downtime, and fixed-cost subscription programs that turn unpredictable repair expenses into consistent operating costs. BAE Systems also provides customized support to help airlines standardize equipment across fleets, which it says simplifies technician training, streamlines parts inventory and reduces administrative workload.

Andrea Davis, Director of Services and Support at BAE Systems, said the company is committed to helping airlines extend the life, reliability and performance of their fleets, and that the enhanced offerings combine OEM-quality overhauls, proactive component upgrades and simplified trade-in services to lower lifecycle costs and maximize aircraft availability.

BAE Systems describes Horizon Solutions as covering spare parts, repairs, manuals, technical support, training, tailorable support and overhaul packages for airline operators and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) providers. It supports avionics such as full-authority digital engine controls (FADEC), thrust management computers, fly-by-wire flight control systems, sidestick pilot controls, head-up displays, flight deck systems and cabin management systems. The company states it supports over 600 operators and 20,000 aircraft.
