Flexjet Opens Europe's First Dedicated Private Aviation Terminal at Farnborough Airport

Why It MattersAs private aviation activity rises across UK and European routes, large fractional operators are moving to control the full ground experience through owner-exclusive infrastructure instead of relying on shared FBO facilities.

What happened

Flexjet has opened a new dedicated terminal at Farnborough Airport, which the company describes as the first facility of its kind in Europe for private aviation. The 2,098-square-metre terminal sits in a ramp-side building separate from the airport's existing main terminal and is built exclusively for Flexjet aircraft owners.

The terminal includes a lounge that recreates a full-size Gulfstream G700 ultra-long-range jet cabin, an oval bar serving food and beverages, and fully equipped meeting rooms. Flexjet staff also train at the facility, which the company operates as a finishing school for cabin crew. Flexjet CEO Mike Silvestro said private aviation has grown 20% in the UK and Europe, citing The Wealth Report by Knight Frank, which pointed to rising activity across routes linking financial and lifestyle destinations.

Passengers can reach the terminal by helicopter from London Battersea heliport, a journey of approximately 20 minutes. The terminal gives access to Flexjet's fleet of more than 350 private jets.

Industry impact & what to watch

A fractional operator building its own owner-only terminal, separate from the shared facility most private travelers still use, marks a step beyond the service differentiation that has largely played out through cabin interiors and crew training. Here it extends to the physical ground experience itself: a dedicated building, a branded lounge, and a helicopter link designed so an owner's journey never touches the general terminal.

Fractional and jet-card programs compete heavily on consistency of experience across a large fleet, and Flexjet's more than 350 private jets give it enough owner volume at a single airport to justify a standalone building that a smaller charter operator could not support. Silvestro's reference to 20% growth in UK and European private aviation, drawn from Knight Frank's Wealth Report, frames the investment as a bet that volume on these routes keeps building rather than levels off.

Whether this becomes a model other large operators replicate at other European airports, or stays a one-off tied to Farnborough's position near London, will depend on whether owner traffic at this scale shows up at other bases Flexjet serves.
