Fairview Municipal Airport Completes $1.86M Hangar Project, Including Facility for Bearhawk Aircraft

Fairview Municipal Airport in Oklahoma has completed a $1.86 million construction project that added three new aircraft hangars to the facility. Each hangar measures 60 by 60 feet and includes large bi-fold aircraft doors designed to accommodate a range of general aviation aircraft. The project also added new concrete apron and taxiway access, drainage improvements, pavement markings, and other site work.

One of the three hangars will serve as the production home for Bearhawk Aircraft, which recently relocated to the Fairview area. Virgil Irwin, owner of Bearhawk Aircraft, said the facility will support the company's manufacturing and builder-assist programs. "Bringing our business back home to Fairview is a deeply personal milestone," Irwin said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. "This ribbon cutting is more than a company milestone — it's a celebration of returning to my roots and contributing to Major County."

Oklahoma Department of Aeronautics Executive Director Grayson Ardies said the investment reflects the state's broader goals for community airports. "We're adding needed infrastructure, creating room for aviation businesses to grow and helping communities like Fairview turn their airports into stronger economic assets," Ardies said.

Small municipal airports often compete for aviation businesses on the basis of available hangar space and apron capacity rather than traffic volume, and Fairview's project shows how targeted infrastructure spending can attract a manufacturer looking to relocate. A 60-by-60-foot hangar with bi-fold doors is sized for the kind of light aircraft production and builder-assist work Bearhawk Aircraft performs, tying the facility design directly to the tenant it was built to house.

For state aeronautics agencies, funding hangar construction at a community airport is a way to convert underused general-aviation infrastructure into a local economic asset, as Grayson Ardies framed it. Whether Fairview's expansion draws additional tenants beyond Bearhawk, or whether the remaining hangars fill with other general aviation users, will show whether the investment pays off as broader economic development rather than a single-company accommodation.
