An Electra EL2 Ultra Short aircraft landed at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey, as part of a demonstration organized by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to evaluate advanced air mobility technology for regional transportation. The aircraft, designed to take off and land within extremely short distances, touched down on the former ramp at Bader Field, a closed airport, which NJDOT said was chosen to highlight the aircraft's ability to operate outside traditional airport settings, bringing people and goods closer to their destinations without requiring a drive to an airport.
Officials emphasized that the demonstration does not indicate any immediate plans for commercial or regular flight operations at Bader Field, and NJDOT said it currently has no plans for additional flights at the site. Atlantic City has not announced any plans to bring advanced air mobility operations to the former airport. Widespread deployment of such aircraft remains contingent on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification of the aircraft and the establishment of operating rules before advanced air mobility operations can begin at non-traditional locations.
