FAA Issues Ground Stop at Houston Hobby Airport Due to Thunderstorms from Tropical Depression Edouard
Why It MattersRecurring weather-driven ground stops at major Texas airports underscore how tropical weather systems can disrupt regional flight operations even without direct storm landfall.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop at Houston's William P. Hobby Airport on Thursday, halting departing flights due to thunderstorms moving through the area. The stop took effect at 3:45 p.m. and was scheduled to last until 5 p.m.

The disruption coincided with the remnants of Tropical Depression Edouard tracking across Texas, bringing scattered thunderstorms and rainfall to the Houston area. The National Weather Service warned that scattered thunderstorms would continue through Thursday afternoon, with locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds posing the main threats.
A separate ground stop had been issued earlier in the day at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, but that stop was lifted at approximately 2:15 p.m.
